Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about our Handhelds and ParkTrak software. If you have other questions please fill out the form below. We welcome all of your questions, comments and suggestions. Q.
How long does the handheld unit (hhu) take to download information to a
file? A. This is somewhat PC processor dependent, the faster your computer the faster the download. The data is transferred almost instantaneously from the hhu over Ethernet, however the time for the PC to process the data is about five to ten minutes to process 1000 parking stalls, this includes the images and data from the field. Gone are the days of manual data entry to the PC. Q.
We have more employees on day shift than at night; can you combine data from
several handheld units into one for the night shift crew? A. Yes. Q.
How long does this process take and how complicated is it? A. The process is very simple with the Intermec, when followed correctly. The dayshift’s hhu’s are downloaded into the PC using the combine function on ParkTrak Pro v 2.0. The data is merged together and then uploaded into the one hhu that goes out with the night shift attendant. The time to do this is entirely PC dependent; an older computer will not perform as fast as the newer computers. Part of our excellence of service is to evaluate your current operation and make the appropriate recommendations. Q.
We use other programs and applications with our business, how well does the
hhu’s integrate with our current
operation? A. Usually quite well, we have a top-notch team of programmers and technicians with years of development and programming experience as well as experience in understanding your needs in the parking industry. Q.
How much data can the hhu hold? A. The hhu comes standard with 64mb RAM memory, 32mb Flash ROM and 128mb SD card (currently expandable up to 1g). That’s the technical specification; in English, data storage is not a problem! Our team will evaluate your needs and customize the hhu for your specific operation. Q.
How much do the hhu’s weigh? A. 17-24 oz depending on options. Q.
How rugged is the hhu? A. Very rugged and reliable. Intermec is a world leader in the design of mobile computing hardware that stands up to the most rugged demands. Designed from the ground up for use in harsh environments the hhu can withstand multiple 5-ft drops to concrete and is sealed against rain and dust. Q.
What is the average lifecycle of the battery? A.
The battery should take about 1000 charges or two to three years with normal
use. Q.
How long does the battery hold a charge? A. About 6 to 10 hours depending on the applications in use. If you are using every application and feature 100%, the battery will still last about four to five hours. The great thing about the Intermec is the built-in Flash ROM, which allows hot swapping of the battery, so in the event a battery is going dead you can simply pop it out, replace it with a fresh one and continue where you left off. No more worries about loosing data. Q.
How long does it take to recharge the battery? A. Recharging time is about 4 hours. Q.
We have electronic pay boxes, can you integrate the hhu with them. A. We currently integrate with a number of electronic pay boxes. We also have relationships with other manufactures of electronic pay boxes so integration would be no problem if needed. Our development team is continually building new interfaces as the need arises. Q.
What is included with the hhu? A. This depends on what application best suites your needs. Your account representative will help you select the right package for your needs. The Basic ParkTrak Pro v2.0 package includes the following:
Q.
What is the range of the hhu to printer? A. About 30 feet with Blue Tooth connectivity. Q.
Can the hhu be charged from a vehicle? A. Yes, with the optional car charger adapter. Q.
Does the Park Trak v.2.0 software keep track of the date and time the attendant
logged into the hhu? A. Yes Q.
Can attendants change the date and time on the hhu. A.
No, there is no feature to change the date and time at the user level in
ParkTrak Pro V.2.0, a special code is required to access the operating system. Q.
Can I reprint the actual ticket? A. Yes, while in the field if you needed to you could reprint the ticket, not only can you reprint the ticket, with our state of the art License Plate Reader, you can print an actual picture of the back of the persons vehicle on the ticket. Gives new meaning to “a picture is worth a thousand words” or how about paid tickets! However once the data is downloaded to the PC, printing an actual ticket is no longer an option. Q.
Can the software keep data separate if we use one hhu on several different lots? A. Yes, because ParkTrak Pro V.2.0 does lot inventory. Q.
Will the software allow for different penalty fees based on the particular lot
the hhu is used at? A. ParkTrak Pro V.2.0 has multi-rate structure built into the system, the amount of the fee can be calculated by adding the fine amount plus the daily max fee for a particular lot making the penalty adjustable by both type of violation as well as specific lot. Q.
Can a parker prepay for parking and the software will keep track of that vehicle
and then automatically deduct the fee? A. This is a feature that will be available through ParkTrak’s new web service that is currently in planning; no release date has been set. Q.
Can a parker who has prepaid, park their car at another lot owned by our company
as long as we use the hhu on all our lots? A. The prepaid service will also be available with the new web services currently in planning. This new service will be customizable by the parking company. Q.
Can a parker prepay for event parking, for example a season ticket holder can
also have a season fee for parking that ParkTrak Pro V.2.0 could keep track of? A. Same as the above web services, however a short-term solution is to issue specific use permits that could be recorded and tracked by the hhu.
